Father’s Day is almost here, and it’s always fun to celebrate dad. There are so many ways to show him how much you love him from homemade gifts, to taking him out to eat or on an outing. Here are some ideas to consider this year.
Cook for him. Make dad his favorite breakfast, bake him his favorite cookies or pack a backyard picnic. Dad will love sharing that special meal with you.
Create your own message. Make a homemade card, write a poem or letter. Add some photos of you and dad to share some of your past years’ memories.
Take dad to the beach. Pack lounge chairs, beverages and a snack, and head to a relaxing day at the beach. Bring along dad’s favorite book or magazine and take in the rays. Enjoy sandcastle making, collecting shells, splashing in the water or just let dad take a nap.
Do chores so he can relax. What can you do so dad can enjoy his day off? Take out the garbage, sweep the garage, wash the car or do the lawn work. Anything you can take off his plate will make his day better. Let him pull up a chair and enjoy his favorite beverage while the family does the work.
Looking for an Outing? Whether you buy dad a craft beer festival ticket or a brunch cruise, going on an outing can set the mood for a great Father’s Day! Here’s some nearby budget-friendly outings to consider;
San Diego Wooden Boat Festival. Held on June 18 and 19 in the Point Loma Peninsula, the Wooden Boat Festival is on Shelter Island at the Koehler Kraft marina. Dad will get a chance to see over 70 vintage wooden boats.
Tour Petco Park. The Padres are on the road this Father’s Day, so it’s the perfect time to take a tour of Petco Park. Tours will start at 10:30 am, 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Any baseball Dad will love the experience.
Maritime Museum “Boarded! A New Pirate Adventure”. On June 18, this hilarious interactive show puts visitors in the middle of the pirate action. Participants will be sworn in as part of the ship crew, trained how to navigate, sword fight, bail water from a sinking ship, escape from the King’s jail, swab the deck and other pirate skills. Performances are 90-minutes. Make a reservation.
San Diego Natural History Museum. Visit the current exhibitions or take a Canyoneer Hike together. This is the perfect way to spend time with your nature-loving dad.
San Diego Model Railroad Museum. Is your dad a model train enthusiast? Show him how much you care and take him on a visit to the museum in Balboa Park.
San Diego Fair. Exhibits, music, food and more! Treat dad to the fair. Order your tickets online.
Pier Fishing. Is dad an angler? Take him pier fishing off one of San Diego Bay’s six piers or one of the four ocean piers. No fishing licenses are needed on Ocean Beach pier.
Whatever you decide dad will love, start and end your day with lots of hugs and a big thank you! Dad will feel like the luckiest man on earth.
