Fall Colors in SoCal

Where to See Fall Colors in Southern California

As we migrate into the later months of the year, autumn begins to unfurl its seasonal bounty in the form of cooler nights, pumpkin spice and, of course, beautiful fall colors. In an environment of plentiful palm and California peppertrees, finding foliage in areas where leaves change colors in autumn isn’t always easy – but not impossible! You may have to travel a little way, but the destination is always worth the journey. Here are some places to point your car over the next few weeks to reap the colorful rewards.

Temecula and Murrieta. Known as the heart of Southern California wine country, it’s also when grapevines are at one of their prettiest times of the year. And with nearly 30 vineyards scattered throughout the region, a day of wine tasting and wandering through color-changing grapevines will make for a relaxing weekend.

Oak Glen in San Bernardino County. This rural setting is found in the foothills of the scenic San Bernardino Mountains. A wander through this picturesque town greets visitors with golden oak trees, pumpkin patches and Southern California’s largest apple farm, Los Rios Rancho.

Lake Arrowhead. In Oak Glen you can see the mountains from afar, but why not just drive into them as well! Visit Lake Arrowhead for the day or a weekend getaway and escape to this peaceful mountain town for daily hikes, beautiful vistas and plentiful autumn leaves.

Julian. This little northern San Diego County location is a perennial fall fan favorite for all things autumn. From its small village charm to its delicious apple pies to its beautiful fall foliage, people have been visiting and returning here year after year for a good dose of autumn.
