Mother’s Day Activities

Fun and Loving Mother’s Day Activities

On Sunday, May 9, moms everywhere will wake up to breakfast in bed, sweet hand drawn cards and promises of a day with no jobs or errands. Along with these heart felt assurances, we’ve come up with some additional surprises and treats for that very special lady.

The Flower Fields. Every year Carlsbad bursts with blooms at its world-famous Flower Fields. This year, ticketing is done in advance and online only, so you must visit the website before you go. Wander around or take a wagon ride amidst the gorgeous ranunculus flowers for wonderful memories and beautiful photos.

Brunch. Whether you do this at home or at a restaurant, there is nothing like a delicious meal with loved ones to start this happy day. If you’re cooking at home, do all your planning on Saturday and even some food prep to make Sunday’s tasks go easier. If you’re going out, reserve your restaurant in advance. Also open this year are brunch cruises for an indulgent day on the sea.

Workout Together. If mom doesn’t like to miss a day of exercise, have your children plan a workout together that’s a little outside mom’s normal routine. This can include a family bike ride or hike, a hula hoop contest with everyone in the family or a custom dance routine with the help of YouTube for mom and the kids.

Snap Some Photos. Many of today’s phones take high-quality photos, so take advantage of this technology and let your kids plan a photo shoot in the back yard or a nearby park for mom. Using a timer and a tripod, let your kids “direct” the shoot, so they can get the pictures they envision. You’ll have a fun time with lots of giggles and likely some pictures and moments you will remember for a lifetime.
