New Year’s Eve Activities in San Diego

Family and Adult Friendly New Year’s Eve Activities in San Diego

Another year has passed, and quite honestly many are happy to wave goodbye to 2021 and hello to 2022. While it seemed a little more normal than the prior year (remember the toilet paper shortage!!), there were still plenty of challenges to overcome. It seems that everyone is ready to celebrate new beginnings! Here are some fun ideas to ring in the New Year – San Diego style!

Fireworks. Plenty oohing and ahhing opportunities will be scattered throughout the San Diego area including Seaport Village, Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Portside Pier and more. Check online listings for details on time, parking and health and safety procedures.

Hotel del Coronado. With a nod to the twenties, the Del invites revelers to the Hotel Del’s Speakeasy. Don your favorite Gatsby-inspired gown and suit, and head over for roaring good time! Tickets and information available here.

Legoland. If you and your kids’ version of midnight is a little bit earlier than 12 a.m., Legoland has you covered! Special activities, New Year’s Eve festivities and fireworks will delight all and there will be time to tuck in before the gong strikes. Tickets can be found here.

San Diego Zoo. Holding onto the holiday vibe up until January 2, the San Diego Zoo hosts Jungle Bells with the return of Aurora—a magical and spectacular experience with lights, 3D projections and music. Also enjoy traditional lighting displays, musical performances and entertainment. This holiday extravaganza is included in the price of your admission ticket.

Stay home. Maybe you want to cozy up on the couch and watch the ball drop in Times Square in your jammies. Before you head to the couch for the evening, take this time to build some New Year’s Eve memories and traditions. Such activities could include starting a jigsaw puzzle, cooking a gourmet meal together, roasting s’mores over a back yard fire pit, preparing a family time capsule, talking about and writing down new year resolutions or whatever sweet family moment you think you’d all enjoy.
